Serving our neighbors with generosity and love

Good Neighbors Brooklyn helps run and support programs throughout Brooklyn aimed at serving our most at-risk populations: immigrants, refugees, single mothers, people experiencing homelessness or food scarcity, and the oppressed. We would love your partnership — get involved!

English Class

GNC hosts a casual English conversation nights every Monday evening at Roots Cafe in South Slope. Immigrants, refugees, and other learners mix with our volunteers and get a chance to practice learning English and building community.

Volunteers always welcome!

Mentorship

One of the most impactful way to serve our neighbors is to help them stay our neighbors, through relational, emotional, spiritual, and legal support.

Mentorship is a program through which Good Neighbors volunteers can sponsor at-risk immigrant youths, creating opportunities for them to navigate the naturalization process via family court instead of more hostile immigration courts.

Anyone can become a Mentor, and the need is greater than ever.

The Frances Residence & Safe Families

The Frances Residence is a temporary home for mothers with infants and toddlers who need safe shelter and supportive community during a vulnerable season of life. These mothers are working toward stability while caring for their young children.

Through our partnership with Safe Families, we are building a circle of support around these moms. We invite volunteers to step in as Safe Families mentors, and childcare helpers so that mothers have practical help, encouragement, and breathing room as they move forward.

You can get involved by sharing meals, spending time in conversation, helping with childcare, and meeting everyday needs — all as part of a trained and supported Safe Families volunteer network.

Safe Families is a volunteer-driven ministry with the goal of keeping kids safe and families intact. A longterm partner organization, Safe Families organizes vetted and trained volunteers from local churches to offer individualized support for families in crisis.

Good Neighbors partners with Safe Families to empower, encourage, and strengthen families through mutually beneficial relationships. We seek to reduce foster care numbers by supporting families as we know that stress and isolation can lead to abuse and neglect.

Mixteca

Mixteca is a community-based organization in Sunset Park. It exists to address critical needs in health, education, social and legal issues facing the burgeoning Mexican and Latin American immigrant community in Brooklyn.

Good Neighbors partners with Mixteca every year to collect backpacks and school supplies for needy families to help make back-to-school an exciting and joyful season.

Vocal NY

Voices of Community Activists and Leaders (VOCAL-NY) is a statewide grassroots membership organization that builds power among low-income people directly impacted by HIV/AIDS, the drug war, mass incarceration, and homelessness They accomplish this through community organizing, leadership development, advocacy, direct services, and direct action.

Good Neighbors partners with Vocal by hosting a monthly community dinner.

Running Rights & Land

Good Neighbors partners with Touching Land to host a running club this fall with members of the community and asylum seekers. The club meets weekly and participants are educated on the rights of undocumented persons. The final week the group participates in a race together.

THE Free Store

We are partnering with Brooklyn Open Hearts to host a free store, offering seasonal clothing, hygiene supplies and food pantry items. Everything is free, and all are welcome!

Donate clothing, food, books, and everyday essentials to the Open Hearts Free Store. These items can be dropped off every day at Roots Cafe from 7:30am-4pm, or Sunday mornings at Trinity Grace Church through February 15, 2026.

Volunteer on February 21, 2026 at their Free Store, including for shifts before and after the event.
